The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has delivered on its promise to promote co-curricular performance in its schools.Meant for Classes IX and X, the new policy will raise the grades of students in one or two academic subjects if they do well in extra curricular areas.
Under CBSE’s new concept of Continuous Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE), a child is assessed throughout the year in both academics and extra-curricular activities. A child can score a maximum of 42 grade points in the latter.
As per the new promotion policy, if a child, at the end of the year, scores anything between 34 points and 42 points in extra curricular activities, he is eligible to have his grade up scaled to the next level in two academic subjects. A co-scholastic score between 19 points and 33 points would translate into a grade improvement by one level in one academic subject. The improved scholastic grade will be indicated by a star on the report card. However, since this announcement came late, only a few schools have been able to implement this policy for Class IX this year. From the new academic session, the new promotion policy is mandatory for all schools to follow in Classes IX and X.
