INDIAN NATIONAL SYMBOLS

NATIONAL SYMBOLS

National Flag
Our flag is the tricolour. It has three horizontal bands of deep saffron, white and green. The centre of the white band has a wheel or chakra with 24 spokes in navy blue which represents the Chakra which is the wheel of life and growth. It is a symbol of movement and progress. The Chakra has historical significance. Its design is that of the wheel which appears on the abacus of the Ashokan Pillar at Sarnath. It signifies the determination of the people to march ahead on the path of righteousness and lead the nation to progress and prosperity.
The national flag should be ideally made of homespun khadi. The ratio of its length to its breadth should be two to three. All the three colours of the tricolour have their significance.
