December 16, 2009: Mobile number portability delayed for 3 months
MNP service was to be introduced by December 31 in the metros and by March 2010 in the rest of the country. Mobile subscribers need to pay a maximum of just Rs 19 for availing the service. The process is to take four days.

December 16, 2009: Capgemini's Largest Global Trade center is India
Capgemini is a Paris based the information technology services and consulting major. As per a recent news Capgemini plans to add 6,000 people in India over the next 12 months, which will make this the company's largest global centre, with over 26,000 employees.

December 17, 2009 : Incentives for Wind power producers under GBI scheme
Government will give 50 paise as incentive for a unit of electricity generated by wind power producers for 4-10 years under GBI scheme. Incentive will be provided to wind power producers at 50 paise per unit of electricity fed into the grid for a period not less than four years and the maximum of 10 years.

December 17, 2009: World's first hybrid two-wheelers Launched
Eko Vehicles, a company based in Bangalore has launched the world's first hybrid bikes and scooters. The ET-120 and Strike which were developed in collaboration with US and UK based companies run both on gasoline and the battery and thus doubling the mileage per litre of petrol. This 120cc capacity bike reduced the carbon emission to 50%.

December17, 2009: Rupee Symbol
RBI committee headed by Deputy Governor Usha Thorat has shortlisted five symbols from 4,000 entries for a public competition to select a design for the symbol. RBI has given its recommendations, but it will need the approval of the finance minister as well as the Cabinet. This may take two-three months. While the five candidates will be awarded Rs 25,000, the winner will get Rs 2.5 lakh (Rs 250,000).

December 17, 2009: Biggest wealth creator in 2009 : Reliance
Reliance Industries has emerged as the biggest wealth creator in the 2009 fiscal. It has generated 1,51,400 crore (Rs 1,514 billion ), which accounted for over 15 per cent of the total wealth created during the year in the country. It was revealed in a study by Motilal Oswal, a brokerage firm.

December 22, 2009: India cracks human genome, joins elite club
Samir K Brahmachari the director general of Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) & his team of scientists working with the Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology (IGIB) in New Delhi have decoded the genome of a 52-year-old man from Jharkhand after nine weeks of study -- a first in the country. The feat has helped India join a select club of countries -- the US, UK, Canada , Korea and China.

How this is important:
Genetic sequencing will help in early diagnosis and management of diseases, including cancer. Persons with genetic profiling will get an indication of diseases to come. It is significant because the ability to assemble the genome shows our capability to study the variations in genes and, thus, will revolutionise future disease predictions and treatment methodologies.

December 24, 2009: Number of Telephone Users
The number of telephone subscribers touched 543.20 million at the end of November, taking tele-density closer to the half-way mark, driven by a record 17.65 million new additions in wireless telephony as per recent datas released by TRAI.

December 14, 2009: India's most polluted industrial hubs
India's to 10 most polluted Industrial hubs are Ankleshwar and Vapi in Gujarat, Ghaziabad and Singrauli in Uttar Pradesh, Korba in Chhattisgarh, Chandrapur (Maharashtra ), Ludhiana in Punjab , Vellore in Tamil Nadu, Bhiwadi in Rajasthan , and Angul Telcher in Orissa. It has been revealed in a study by IIT-Delhi along with the Central Pollution Control Board which has rakned 88 industrial clusters across the country on Comprehensive Environment Pollution Index (CEPI) on the basis of water, land and air pollution.

December 29, 2009: India Sri Lanka Power Link
A high-capacity power transmission link between India and Sri Lanka will be completed by 2013. The 285-kilometre power link, including submarine cables over a stretch of 50 km, will enable the two countries to trade their surplus power, thereby offering a cheaper option to bridge their power generation deficit and also manage their peak demand. India's side is Powergrid Corporation of India Ltd, & stakeholder in Sri Lanka side is Ceylon Electricity Board.

Powergrid and the Ceylon Electricity Board will lay down cables under the Gulf of Mannar between Rameshwaram in Tamil Nadu and Talaimannar in Mannar islands in Sri Lanka.

Its a Rs 2,300-crore project and MOU between the above two agencies will be signed soon.
